Crazy Times & Good Food! | 09.01.10

Things have been so insanely busy for the past month or so. A good kind of busy, but still insane. I have some more posts coming up, but for now I will leave ya with a damn good recipe!

I’ve been cooking a lot more and trying not to eat out as much. I got this recipe from La Dolce Vegan and it was so, so good.

brown rice (or grain of your choice)
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp olive oil
1 inch fresh ginger, finely grated
1 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 cup vegetable stock
1 large potato, cubed
1 large tomato, minced
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup frozen peas
1 tbsp fresh cilantro, minced

In a medium pot, cook the rice accordingly. While the rice is cooking, in a large saucepan on medium heat, saute the onions in oil until translucent. Add the ginger, garam masala, and paprika and saute for 2 minutes; stir constantly to avoid sticking. Add the stock, potatoes, tomatoes and salt, and stir until well coated. Cover with lid and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once potatoes are cooked, stir in the peas and cilantro; remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes before serving. Makes 2 large or 4 small servings.

Big Boi | 07.27.10

Big Boi

I love Outkast. There’s not many albums that I can listen to every song & then repeat, but I can do that will all of their albums. As for their solo stuff, I’ve always been way more into Andre’s work & I absolutely love him. Then Big Boi went and released Sir Lucious Left Foot … The Son of Chico Dusty and I just can’t get over it. It’s been on repeat while I’m working for days now. My words cannot do it justice, so I will share my two favorites with ya.

Big Boi – Fo Yo Sorrows. I thought this was my favorite but then I heard…

Big Boi – Tangerine. Best workout song ever! So, so good.

What albums are you guys getting into lately? I love hearing new music!

Weekly Love #14 | 07.02.10

orange girl

Not sure where this is from.. anyone know? I love this photo!

18 Cool Inventions From the Past has some really neat photos. I love the early GPS.

• The color so composition of these photographs by Matthias Heidrich are beautiful.

• Even though I am terrified of them, I do enjoy the zombify blog for all things zombie related.

• I love book covers & there are 45 gorgeous ones here.

Lawn Chairs by Lisette Spee

These “lawn chairs” get the job done. Designed by artist Lisette Spee in collaboration with architect Tim Van Den Burg, the playful seats are part of a series of lounge chairs created for public spaces in Valkenberg Park in Breda, Netherlands.

Monday Motivation: Gemma Correll | 06.28.10

Gemma Correll creates some of the cutest illustrations, but I am especially into these letters. They are too much! The cuteness and colors are so good. You definitely need to take a look at her Flickr stream. In addition to a portfolio of her work, she also gives a tour of her studio space & it’s always fun to see another creative person’s work space.

You can view her adorable etsy shop here & her official website.

Blue Bird Truck Stop

I love old signs like this. They definitely don’t make ‘em like they used to!

• I absolutely love this street art. How clever!

Matter Printed is all about judging things by their cover. This site features some great magazine covers for you to look through. There are some great designs here.

• I love ghost stories, weird happenings & unexplained events, so 10 Japanese ghost towns is right up my alley. Speaking of freaky deaky shit, I can’t get enough of ONTD creepy.

How crazy is this bridge? I can’t believe how close the bottom part is to the water! Here’s the info on it:

In Hong Kong, cars drive on the left while in the rest of China, they drive on the right. If you’re building a bridge between the two, you’ve got to come up with a clever way to switch lanes without disruption or accident.

You can download a dust jacket template from icoeye and create icons out of your books live. I really love seeing the books and crazy & mismatched on a bookshelf, but this would be neat for a small group of books.

• If you’re being ridiculous (not in a good way), all you need to say to yourself is shhhh! Learn how to STFU & get it together! I’ve used this a couple of times this week & it really does snap you right out of your crazy thoughts before you act like a fool.

Bonzai Aphrodite has rounded up the best vegan bbq recipes! Everything sounds & look so good, especially her barbecued miso corn. YUM.

• How amazing are these Mardi Gras costume and float designs?!

I hope everyone has a great weekend & share what you’re lovin’ this week in the comments!

Just One Of Them Days | 06.24.10

I tried & doing a day in the life on Monday, but failed. I got all the way up to the point where I was at the dentist & then I got so nervous that I forgot to take photos! It didn’t help that half of my face was numb & I took the longest nap ever after.. it would have been a pretty boring day anyway. I still took a few nice photos & thought I’d share those with ya.

The morning light in the bathroom is so nice. I feel the most productive from about 6-10am just because the light and summer weather is so perfect!

Haha, he is just the cutest little thing ever. He is such a twerp though.. always getting into something and barking non-stop. I was having major problems with him pulling while on his leash and barking at other dogs while on walks, but after using the gentle leader he has completely stopped.

I cannot recommend it enough! It doesn’t choke, but makes it if they get ahead of you they have to turn their to look at you. Every time his eyes meet mine I can tell he hates me a lil’ bit, but that’s okay. Haha. At least he’s behaving better while out at the park.

This apartment rental company has the best logo. I always love walking to work & seeing their logo sprayed onto trashcans. It’s just so different and stands out beautifully among all the other rental companies on campus. It’s funny how a nice logo can bring such instant cheer to my morning! :]

Monday Motivation: Greno | 06.21.10

Minjae Lee - Greno

Minjae Lee - Greno

Minjae Lee - Greno

I love these paintings by Minjae Lee (aka Greno), an artist based in South Korea. I think what makes these is the collage look combined with hand drawn details. I didn’t realize they were all paintings until I read more about them. Lovely work! It definitely motivates me to try out some hand drawn/collage styles in my designs at work.

You can download quite a few of his pieces in larger formats here at wallpaperart.org to use as your desktop background.

Weekend Fun! | 06.16.10

I hope you guys had a great weekend! It was definitely a great one for me & I ended up getting a lot done. It was nice & relaxing, which is good because this weekend will be full of weeding, cleaning & mowing. I really don’t enjoy being outside too much.. guess I need to stock up on some SPF 100+ for the weekend. Haha :]

fire drill at work!>
Friday started with a fire drill a work. We thought it was just a test, but when we went outside you could definitely smell something burning. It smelled like burnt popcorn. Shoo!

<IMG SRC=

I talked with co-workers, drank coffee & took photos while waiting on the fire trucks to arrive. I love the old buildings on campus. They are so gorgeous & also a bit spooky since some aren’t really used/don’t have many people in them. This building in an old dorm.

open windows
Someone burned something cooking waaay up there. It happened on the floor with the open windows.

Sunsphere

Sunsphere & Beer
After work, I went with Greg to the bar in the Sunsphere. The bar was closing for good the next day so we wanted to go one more time. The view up there is so incredible and I will miss having drinks up there every now and then.

Greg & a bear
After that, we took a walk around the convention center trying to find the world’s largest rubik’s cube. It isn’t there anymore, but we did find this bear!

Knoxville Sunset
The walk to the parking garage was nice. It was beautiful out!

taco bell!

We then went to Taco Bell & tore up some crunchy tacos with beans instead of meat! So good. I love how they let you substitute like that & don’t look at you crazy. I went to Burger King once and ordered a veggie burger & the guy pretended to be puking for like two minutes straight. Total creep!

Dr. Dre pint glass

I then ended the weekend by purchasing the most amazing pint glass ever to add to Greg’s collection.

Dr. Dre – Nothin’ But A G Thang
